Aside from the obvious “savages”, in this specific context, being used as a derogatory reference to the Aboriginal Americans1 – whom the stone sculpture depicts as the so-called Negroes, Blacks, or African-Americans – there are other hidden treasures that point directly to the Moors.

Namely, the Moorish scimitar and round shield being held by the male figurine. Also, there may be some significance to the vase held by the female figurine and her sun disc shaped headwear, but those meanings are outside the realm of my comprehension at this time.
